DESIGNINGSound research design is the key element for conducting studies that are both valid and generalizable ,and the consulting staff at the RSL are well-prepared to advise on important aspects of design.Relying on both their formal academic training and their own research experiences,RSL staff will help with these design considerations:
Refining research questions;
Selecting methods and procedures;
Identifying populations and selecting samples;
Planning implementations.IMPLEMENTING
The major outcome of the implementation phase is the data for analysis,which must be collected and recorded with care because the data represent the empirical embodiment of the research problem.Although the nature of a specific study determines the kinds of help you may need,several aspects of the research process are common to most studies:
Producing documents ,such as questionnaries:
Preparing data for statistical analysis;
Advising /training researchers on the use of word -processing programs, and text editors for data organization, storage , and retrieval.ANALYZING
The academic and research experience of RSL staff encompasses the full spectrum of analytic techniques from simple ,descriptive statistics to multivariate analyses.The staff are computer data analysis programs , and they will help you with:
Using statistical and graphics packages available through C⁢
Selecting appropriate statistical procedures;
selecting package(s) that satisfy your data analysis needs;
setting up data and commands in accordance with specific software requirements.REPORTING
Once your data have been analyzed , your next step is to incorporative results into the text of your research article ,thesis ,or dissertation.The RSL has a trained technical writer/editor and a graphic designer to help you use available software packages to improve the appearance of your final publication.By providing this last step in the research process, our goal is to help the Wayne State research community procedure high-quality research publications by:
Integrating word processing , graphics ,and statistical analyses into final documents;
formatting text, tables, and bibliographies to meet departmental , university , or publication specifications.NOTE
Consulting on "research design", "methodology", "statistical data analysis", and "interpretation of data analysis results" including proper usage of the statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, AMOS, HLM.
No consulting is available on homework or take-home exams.
No tutoring is available on software.
